Membership of Law Society NT is available to Australian legal practitioners holding a current Practising Certificate from any Australian jurisdiction. Those not holding a current Practising Certificate may apply for Associate Membership. The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June, concurrently with the Practising Certificate year.

Membership costs $320 (incl GST) per annum or pro rata. Click here to apply for Membership.

A subscription to the fortnightly e-newsletter, The Practitioner.
Free confidential counselling for the member and their immediate family through the LawCare program.
Opportunity to provide comments on proposed legislation.

LawCare Counselling Service

The Society recognises that lawyers (like employees in several other professions) often work under enormous pressure, so it has been a priority of the Society to make a LawCare counselling program available to members.

The counselling service, provided through Employee Assistance Service Australia (EASA), is confidential, free and available to Society members and their immediate family.

If you are experiencing workplace, personal or emotional issues which are affecting your work or personal life, please call LawCare via the Employee Assistance Program on 1800 193 123 (NT only) to make an appointment.

When booking an appointment, please tell the operator you are a Law Society NT member.

Associate membership

ABOUT ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

You are not eligible if you hold a current Practising Certificate issued in any Australian jurisdiction.
Law graduates, law administration officers, conveyancing agents, senior police and retired members of the profession are eligible to apply for Associate Membership.
Associate Membership entitles the associate member to attend seminars and social functions and to receive the Society's publications.
Associate members are ineligible to vote at Council elections and attend meetings.
Associate members are issued with renewal notices that will be sent at the beginning of the Practising Certificate renewal period in July of each year.

LAW STUDENTS

If you are a student enrolled in a law course or practical legal training course which is recognised by the Legal Practitioners Admission Board for the period of enrolment you are eligible to apply to be an Associate Member and a member of the Society's NT Young Lawyers Committee (NTYL).
The fee for NTYL membership is a flat rate of $34.00 (incl. GST).
