Call for Participants!

Think you can make a room full of lawyers laugh before they object?
Do you have the wit, charm, and sheer audacity to speak for 5 minutes (and no more than 5 minutes) on a random topic… with only 48 hours notice?
Well then WE WANT YOU!

On Friday 10 October 2025, the NTYL’s NT Golden Gavel Competition returns – where young lawyers test their comedic chops, improvisation skills, and nerves of steel in front of a live audience. This year we’re also inviting old *ahem… more seasoned members of the profession to flaunt there skills and show the young ones they’ve still got it.

No experience necessary – just bravery, quick thinking, and a willingness to sacrifice your dignity (tastefully).

Warning: Fame, glory, and eternal bragging rights await and for the top young lawyer – a spot at the National Golden Gavel Competition in Brisbane in November!
