The Law Society Northern Territory (Society) has expressed concern at the recent leak of police watch house video footage and calls for an immediate independent formal investigation.
Society President Mr Richard Henschke said, “It is imperative that the matter of the leak be thoroughly investigated given its potential impact on the trust of the public in the integrity of police investigations, the reputation of the police force and the potential impact on the alleged offender to have their matter dealt with fairly by the criminal justice system.
The Society urges the Northern Territory Police Commissioner to hold and make the findings of the independent formal investigation public.”
The Society calls upon the both the Northern Territory Police and the Northern Territory Government to ensure that this issue is properly investigated and dealt with.
