    Kimberley Community Legal Services (KCLS) provides free legal assistance and outreach across the Kimberley including Kununurra, Broome, Derby, Halls Creek, Wyndham and remote communities.

    KCLS is the largest remote civil law service in Australia and offers legal advice, assistance and limited representation in family law, family violence, criminal injuries compensation, credit and debt, tenancy and general civil law, as well as providing public tenancy support and financial counselling services.

    We focus on social justice and human rights, community participation and collaboration, and quality, pro-active and responsive service delivery, including law reform.

    Our approach is based upon principles of community development, with an emphasis on relationship-building, cultural sensitivity and community legal education.

    The majority of KCLS clients are Aboriginal and we strive to maximise Aboriginal involvement in staffing and management.

    About the Pilot Project

    Kimberley Community Legal Services has been selected by the Australian Government to implement a Specialist Family Violence Unit under the Women’s Safety Package (announced in September 2015). The newly formed Family Violence Prevention Team will provide culturally- and gender-appropriate, wrap-around intensive support (including legal services) to vulnerable women at risk of family violence.

    The team will operate on a co-case management model and will include the following personnel:

    Project Co-ordinator – full-timeCommunity Lawyer – full-timeAdministrative Officer – 3 daysCommunity Legal Educator – 3 days

    About You

    The Project Co-ordinator will play an integral role in establishing and developing the project through effective partnership-building and collaborative practice, based upon a whole-of-community approach, whilst supporting the team to achieve project objectives.

    The successful applicant will have a strong background in project management and community development (ideally within the legal sector) and experience building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. The applicant will also have demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an autonomous role and possess outstanding communication, mentoring, consultation and reporting skills.

    The position is full-time and based in Kununurra (with outreach across the East Kimberley).

    Salary Package: $71,254.56 (+ Salary Packaging + Housing Allowance + 9.5% Super Contribution).
