In this workshop Colin will provide insights into the litigation process as it applies in NSW to matters involving historical cases of child sexual abuse; in particular, how the manner in which these claims are now litigated in light of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Historical Child Sexual Abuse, focussing on the change of consciousness in approach.

Colin is an experienced insurance lawyer who rejoined Sparke Helmore's liability team in 2017, after 10 years leading his own boutique insurance firm. He has more than 23 years experience advising on most areas of insurance litigation, including public liability, professional indemnity, property loss, fraud, statutory lines and local government. Colin’s clients include insurers, brokers, and public and private entities.
Colin advises clients across most areas of general liability and has managed many major and complex claims, including claims against statutory authorities, local government authorities and government agencies. He thrives on helping clients achieve better than expected results. He is passionate about mentoring less experienced lawyers and claims staff, become proficient quickly. He recently joined the Law Society's Women's Mentoring Program.
Colin has a Bachelor of Laws from University of New South Wales and a Graduate Diploma in Advocacy from Australian National University and he loves acting and musical theatre. Last year he made a dashing ‘Darcy’ in the Bridget Jones Does Blackheath Review. He was the only actor who could wear his work clothes while singing, dancing and making the audience weep with laughter. He unwinds by playing the guitar, golf and soccer.
