This workshop examines the role of presumptions and the principle of legality in statutory interpretation. It will provide an overview of the major issues for newly admitted practitioners, as well as a refresher for more experienced practitioners.

- The principle of legality: statutory interpretation and common law rights
- The role of other common law presumptions
- Practical examples and relevant High Court case law.

Shelley Eder is a Lecturer at Charles Darwin University. She has lectured in Legal Process, Introduction to Law, Legal Interpretation and Advanced Torts. Prior to joining CDU she worked for many years in the community legal sector, where she specialised in the area of Social Security Law.
