Mr Lawrence SC will present a lecture on this fundamental aspect of Advocacy which is central and extremely difficult. The lecture will address the relevant history and philosophy behind Cross Examination as well as the various techniques, methods and approaches which exist pertaining to an Advocate’s preparation and chosen method vis a vis the type of witness and what court the case is being heard in. The lecture will also address Cross Examination of expert witnesses and children as witnesses.

John B Lawrence SC has practised in the main in criminal law in the Northern Territory. He was a Senior Crown Prosecutor for 5 years, Solicitor-in-Charge of the then NAALAS for 5 years; and has now been at the private Bar for 20 years. In 2010 he was appointed Senior Counsel. He has prosecuted major matters for the Northern Territory and the Commonwealth DPP as well as defended the same. He has presented several CPD lectures in the past concerning ethics, cross-examination of expert witnesses, trial preparation, guilty pleas and other relevant topics.
